Giddy-Grim Dream-Pop & Post-Rockers Mew succeeded in packing a set of shell locking numbers on their last LP And The Glass Handed Kites four years ago with the hauntingly whiny vocals that saw us steroiding our choir boy voices in hopes of harmonizing thy tone with the record on play - the Danish have shown an increasing improvement in the acceptable-weird department of Indie Rock, especially lately with many bands coming to the light like Small and WhoMadeWho.
This year Mew replaced the musky scent of fear with a happier, playful and upbeat music design for their August release 5th album, are you ready for it? Take a Deep breath… “No more stories Are told today I’m sorry They washed away, No more stories The world is grey I’m tired Let’s wash away”.. it doesn’t really beat Fiona Apple’s “When the pawn hits the conflicts he thinks like a king What he knows throws the blows when he goes to the fight And he’ll win the whole thing before he enters the ring There’s no body to batter when your mind is your might So when you go solo, you hold your own hand And remember that depth is the greatest of heights And if you know where you stand, then you know where to land And if you fall it won’t matter, cuz you’ll know that you’re right”.
Strange album titles aside, the new single succeeds in delivering the mood Mew is aiming to pull through with the new album, “Introducing Palace Players” is like an arts & crafts session at the kindergarten, acceptably messy & very freestyle like and highly innocuous and saturated with melody.
