This is a virtual world inventing itself. Daily. Landmasses form and then submerge. New continents of music break off from the mainland. Found treasures wash up on the shores of my computer.
As promised, here’s Part. II with my favorite remixes from around the Blogosphere right now. Drop your 2 cents.
YOU CAN PREVIEW ALL REMIXES BEFORE DOWNLOADING.
You might’ve heard a snippet of this Russian masterpiece on Aeroplane’s Annie Mac 5 Min Minimix back in June, to me it immediately became a hunting target because at hat point a playlist wasn’t present and I believed it was a new Aeroplane Remix. Now, I do realize how dangerous is what I’m about to type but I’m confident enough to say, this is remix is actually as epic as the Aeroplane remix of Friendly Fires fro last year.
To be honest, I have no clue what the song is talking about, but according to a friend of mine, one of the verses goes “I’ve got sand under my feet, Orange juice in one hand, ice cream in the other. Going to buy my grandmother a present, purchase nightmares from the tourists.”

Weird Tapes the side project from one of the Hail Social dudes is one of my most triumphant new discoveries of the year (even though he’s been around for over a year now), I remember throwing a massive praise-dense post on Ohh! Crapp… back in May when he surprisingly remixed Britney Spears’ F U C K ME officially and I’m still in shock to how her label found out about him! Good move nonetheless.
I highly recommend that you go back and read that post, I promise if he’s not one of your favorite artists already it will change your mind, especially if you’re into the whole multi-genre infusing thing. Without exaggeration the dude has never put out a single remix or track that is anything less than impressing.
“I feel more of an emotional connection to music than I do to people. I sometimes think I’m writing love songs to love songs, and not to loved ones.” Source - Below are his latest 2 remixes, the first is part of the new PB&J single out now along with remixes from Teddybears and Miike Snow:
♫ Peter Bjorn & John - It Don’t Move Me (Weird Tapes Remix)
♫ East Hundred - Hammerhead (Weird Tapes Version)
Bot’Ox = Cosmo Vitelli + Julien Briffaz. My interest in this remix though is all about Yuksek, because I remember when his album Away From The Sea came out I was gutted that there was only one track of a cosmic nature, ‘I Could Never Be A Dancer’ – I really wished there were more like it because I’m a sucker for anything covered in stardust. Then this remix came out of nowhere and made my wish come true… could bring James Pants to mind for its intro but once this rocket launches it’s a dramatic space-jungle trip, like a theme to a final episode of a Japanese anime set in another galaxy, this remix changes like scenes and is frosted with mind-images inducing sound effects, it is just pure rad and easily my favorite remix by him.
♫ Bot’Ox - Rue De L’arsenal (Yuksek Remix) 12”
Whenever the word Nu-disco is mentioned, the first name that pops into my head is Studio. Just like the genre royalties Lindstrøm and Prins Thomas, this duo is capable of turning any radio track into a 15 minute movie score. One of the very few music purists who believe that music quality and creativity comes above fame and money (not that they don’t make tons of it), West Coast was my #1 album of 2007 and that year was a tough one with all the massive records being released.
Here’s their aural interpretation of a psychedelic trip into the mind of a stoned hippie on the beach by the fire at night.
♫ Windsurf - Bird Of Paradise (Version by Studio) 12”
I’ve said it before and I will say it again, Faust is a bit under-appreciated for the kind of talent he’s got. If there was a line between commercial dance and electro-house/disco then he’ll sure know how to eliminate it, he’s just good and knows how to put together body-movers for the dance-floors, the kind that makes labels like Ministry Of sound wonder why he’s not on their roaster making them money.
These are his latest remixes he’s sent over the weekend, all in 320kbps. Let him house you.
♫ Division Kent - Salty (Justin Faust Remix)
♫ SomethingALaMode - Rondo Parisiano (Justin Faust Remix)
♫ Edwin Van Cleef - I Want You (Justin Faust Remix)
Like Siriusmo to Boys Noize Rec, Jori Hulkkonen is to Turbo Rec… the different one. Tiga’s studio buddy has proved his ability to turn anything into a late-night version like we’ve witnessed with the Presets and Kid Cudi. Here we have the Finnish duo Hannulelauri getting the after hours treatment from the dancefloor sandman. Perfect for a midnight drive when nostalgia hits… Imagine Kavinsky going Disco.
Lifted from the Glittering Night EP, limited to only 400 copies.
♫ Hannulelauri - Sally 2000 (Jori Hulkkonen Version)
Have you seen the viral Evian Water Roller Babies ad? It’s sound-tracked by a remake of the 1979 musical breakthrough Rapper’s Delight originally by The Sugarhill Gang. The new treatment comes from long time Gorillaz collaborator Dan The Automator who decided to release a digital remix package of his new version with reworks by Van She Tech, TEPR and The Bewitched Hands On the Top of Our Heads. Now available from Amazon.
You know how in past months some of the Van She Tech remixes sounded like they were missing the Tech part, well this one doesn’t.
♫ Dan The Automator - Rapper’s Delight (Van She Tech Remix)
“An almost all vagina collective consisting of 2 Le Tigre members & led by JD Samson (also a member of Peaches live band) rocking to the name Men & producing kaka-tongue lesbian sweat tropical-indie-electro-pop for the current wave of blog surfing weirdos. It’s like lipstick white Santogold Santigold but with a more gelastic projection of real life; or like the New Young Pony Club led by Lindsay Lohan back in the late 90’s after a round of umbrella cocktails.” that’s what I said when I heard their original material. This is their first remix under the new band formation… I Think. Wacky homemade gem (don’t take it too seriously or you’ll be very very confused)!
Don’t judge me… 1/2 of Bloodshy & Avant is a member of the blog hype Miike Snow, OK. Plus this has way far too many chirps, glitches and bleeps for me to resist, it’s like a military submarine ride… except not so hardcore, but seriously there’s an awesome breakdown @ 3:00. I don’t care, I like it.
♫ Britney Spears - Radar (Bloodyshy Avant Remix)
I have no clue who Mr. Jimma is. A friend of his was talking tome over Facebook Chat and told me “My friend remixed a Wolfmother song and I think You’ll like it!”, he sent it, I listened, I LOVED and now I’m sharing it! Don’t sleep on this one, the last 2 minutes are insanely good, I’d include this on my DJ set if I was you.
I’m assuming this is who acid washed it?
♫ Wolfmother - White Unicorn (Mr. Jimma Remix)
It’s been officially announced that Australian Damn Arms has disbanded seeing the duo splitting to their solo way each. Yama focusing on his G.L.O.V.E.S. project and Tim to his soon be founded self outfit. Oddly with such sad news Bang Gang 12 Inches are releasing the final Damn Arms Destination package with remixes from DerDieDas (Isi of Digitalism), Jaunt, Munk, Cassian, Riggarutz and Mitzi. Out now on Beatport.
♫ Damn Arms - Destination (Jaunt Remix)
♫ Damn Arms - Destination (Ted And Francis Remix)
I admit I never noticed Arveene & Misk until I heard their remix of Oizo’s Erreur Jean, apparently they’ve been around for almost 2 years now! Funkism published this entertaining Interview with them along with a bunch of their remixes (some unreleased).. I think you should learn a few things about them because they seem to be the new to go to remixers.
♫ Husky Rescue - Shadow Run (Arveene & Misk Remix)
..& Some More:
♫ Moby - Mistake (Lifelike Remix)
♫ Violens - Doomed (MGMT Remix)
♫ The Juan Maclean - Happy House (Will Saul and Mike Monday Remix)
♫ Major Lazer - Cash Flow (Classixx Glass Bottom Dub Mix)
♫ The Gossip - Pop Goes The World (James Ford Version)
♫ Cougar - Stay Famous (Mike Ladd Remix)
♫ Sebastien Tellier - Fingers of Steel (Hypnolove Remix)
♫ Franz Ferdinand - Can’t Stop Feeling (WhoMadeWho Remix)
