A few things. The summer is over, but it’s still here. I moved this month, and I’m just now getting settled. I hope it hasn’t been too long, but it’s well worth it to be where I am now. It’s strange, sometimes, when you move or something big happens, the things you forget about. I forgot about music. It just wasn’t really around. Then, a few days ago, it came back, and it sounds now like nothing before. A week or two missing from this culture, too, or whatever it is, things change so fast, but we’re still here.
In related news, if anyone here is in Toronto, keep a special eye out over the next few weeks - we’re going to be doing some big things.
Here’s my under-the-radar vote for remix of the month so far, a lush, off-kilter disco reworking of Nightwaves new single on People In The Sky by House of Nada, probably an alias for someone you’re already intimate with given how polished this is and absolutely zero comes up if you try to get clever and do some searching. This is really well done, and it’s been one of the first tracks I’ve had on repeat as I’ve gotten set up in my new place.
♫ Nightwaves - She’s Electric (House of Nada Mix) ←♥♥♥
She’s Electric is out now on People in the Sky. Get it here.
More good news: a new Holy Ghost! remix. As most everyone knows, they’re maybe the most consistently fantastic remixers on the scene today, they’re a solid two for two with singles and their sound is as specific as much as it has evolved since their first mix for Panthers a few years back. Their remix of Lisztomania seems to have been regarded as a little slump, but they’re right back into it with this dub reworking of a track from Datarock’s seemingly forgotten new album, Red. This is classic Holy Ghost! and should just serve to raise the excitement level higher and higher for anyone who has heard some of their earlier demos on Beats in Space. Give us Static on the Wire, Darlin!
♫ Datarock - The Pretender (Holy Ghost Remix Dub)
The Pretender is out now on Nettwerk w/ mixes from CFCF and Chairlift. Get it here.
What else did I miss? The Lake Heartbeat album came out! This is fantastic news, and after listening through a few times Trust In Numbers has cemented itself in my mind as one of the best of the year - this is beautiful, effortless stuff (thanks at least in part to some legendary production from Dan Lissvik of Studio, who are becoming the Swedish Neptunes, or something) that deserves some heavy rotation wherever you are while it’s still warm. This is one of the slower tracks, but it’s one of my favorites, and it just floats on air.
♫ Lake Heartbeat - Solid Mass
Trust in Numbers is out now on Service on CD and digital.
Finally, here’s Mangled’s Ray Mang wth a subtle yet essential reworking of Friendly Fires to take you into the night. The bit he preserves so well at 3:23 is probably my favourite part of the original album. This just makes it that little bit more so.
♫ Friendly Fires - White Diamonds (Ray Mang Remix)
Anyway, so, yeah, back now. Sorry about that. Thanks for hanging in. More soon.
