Interference Or Iridescense

Is it cold for you? I’m not sure what that means, anyway. It’s been a good week, lots getting done, lots of good feelings when getting such things done. I’m sure you know how that is.

The first thing we have for you is a fantastic exclusive new track from Deux Helix, who we first wrote about in August and in the intervening time they’ve gotten even more psycho-electro-tronic in all the best of ways. This picks a little bit of the wondrous electro by way of 1982 action television shows that was all the rage a couple years ago with a really thoughtful melodic sense that keeps everything interesting as it develops. This might have come from an alternate universe where Muse was signed to Bang Gang 12 inches. Maybe. You’ll have to check.

Bonus: Noob & Brodinski - Peanuts Club (Deux Helix Remix)

Vitalic’s album has been getting heavier and heavier play around all of our respective houses and offices, something that really seemed a long shot. If you had, at the start of the year, tried to guess who would have had the strongest, most consistent electro album of the year, who would you have said? Consistency is everywhere with Vitalic these days, and this new b-side on the Poison Lips single matches the quality of the best songs from Flashmob. I dare say it’s a shame it wasn’t included with the rest, but I’m not sure what I would have left off. This continues the beautiful melodic threads through my favorite tracks from the album like Still and Station Mir 2099.

Finally, this comes out of left field, but Kompakt’s Pop imprint has just issued a 12” with remixes of the lead track from Sigur Ros’ 2008 album Með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust. Just as they did with their Foals remix single last year, they’ve given a great rock song some surprising new legs with a couple of fantastic reworkings - Ewan Pearson’s remix of Olympic Airways remains one of my favorite tracks of 2008. This time around, we have mixes by Gluteus Maximus, and this delightful schaffel reworking by Thomas Fehlmann with propulsive hi-hats and deep, satisfying bass. Delicious!
